After I seeing these signs of spring I wonder if winter will ever really come.

Around the House in Black and White

Today is just about me experimenting with the black and white setting on the camera. I like the toothbrush and the measuring cups the best, perhaps for their sense of texture and depth.

The weekend continues...

I just can't stop taking pictures of bare trees and big, blue sky. A friend calls them bare, honest tress. I like that.
On my way home from Occoquan I stopped in at Mason Neck State Park. I had been there for work about 6 or 7 years ago. I'll definitely stop in again for a longer stay this spring.

A little red, a little brown, and one crazy sky

I love the way the sky looks in the first and last shot, the angle in the first picture makes the shrub appear to command most of the sky. I don't know why, but those two pictures make me think of some sort of dust storm out west.

Water

I took a short drive south to Occoquan this morning, a place I've been wanting to check out for a long time. I took a bunch of pictures, but enjoyed trying to capture the rushing water of a small falls the most.

A quick field trip

I spent about an hour at the Botanic Gardens this afternoon...lots of color, very relaxing.

Discovery

I discovered a new setting on my camera this evening. The tinges of color are intriguing, I'll have to read more about the setting and play around with it again.

Happy Birthday, Edith

For whatever reason it's been challenging to get out and take pictures this week. I seem to be leaving for work in the dark and getting home after sunset. Today I made a real effort to leave before the sun went down. I walked around some tennis courts not too far from home and found a few surprises.
Today's title is a reference to the author Edith Wharton who was born on January 24, 1862.

Another look

Each season has its own wonder, it's own special place, and purpose in the pattern of creation.

A few more from Sunday

Just a few more from my trip up to Baltimore this past weekend.

One Cold Morning

I took these at a friend's house outside of Baltimore. The air was a cold 10 degrees but the sky was bright and blue.

Fells Point

I was happy to get the chance to spend about an hour in Fells Point yesterday. The area has changed quite a bit in the past 20 years. Even with the changes the area still has a lot of character.

National Cathedral

I've been meaning to make my way to the National Cathedral for some time now. The surrounding grounds are worth a bit of investigation in any season.
